Snelling a Hook

Securely attaches a hook to a fishing line.

The Snell Knot is used to bind a fishing line to a hook, ensuring a straight-line pull. It is particularly effective for baited hooks and can also attach a line to a hook without an eye (spade-ended hook). Moisten the nylon line to help draw it tight for a secure connection.

Also Known As

  • Snood Knot

Advantages

Provides excellent strength and reliability, maintaining alignment with the fishing line for better hook performance. Ideal for attaching hooks to leaders.

Disadvantages

More complex to tie than some other knots, which may challenge novice anglers and lead to incorrect tying.
